Late February 2012 Update

Here's the latest! I recently played a show at the Elbo Room in Chicago, on 2/12/2012, and had a great time! The room was crowded and the crowd was appreciative. The metal band downstairs was an interesting challenge to overcome, but frankly it wasn't all that terrible. Coming up in March, 3/26/2012, I will be playing at Silvie's Lounge in Chicago as part of the regular "Acoustic Explosion" (thanks for the heads up to fellow musician Peggy Walker, who I met while taking a class last year at the Old Town School of Folk Music). That should be a fun time for sure.
I've been heading out to some open mics, and next week if all goes well I'll be at Uncommon Ground on Clark, although I've been missing the folks over at Hidden Shamrock's open mic, and need to get over there.
Thanks to a tip from Shelley Miller, my former songwriting teacher at OTSFM, this month I've been participating in the FAWM, or February Album Writing Month...which requires that you write a certain number of songs over the course of the month! That has been a great challenge, despite a crazy schedule, and one fun requirement is doing collaborations. I've been remotely co-writing some music which has been a BLAST. Collaboration is awesome.
I've been scouting out major (and minor) gigs coming up later this year and plan on taking some skill building classes on vocals and guitar playing, as well as possibly attending the Folk Alliance Midwest Region mini-conference in Ohio at the end of April. Along the way I will do more recording and writing so that I can quickly build on everything I learned in making my first album, Follow the River Bend, and get album number two ready for the world.
The support of friends and family along the way, and even my extended network of Internet compadres, continues to be a big part of what keeps me heading in the generally forward direction and following my passion for making music. Thanks everyone!
